The situation in 2000
The restored republic of Lithuania fought its way out of the Soviet Union in 1987-88 and is now in the Union and the euro, outside the Defence Union. Between Poland and the independent exclave of Kaliningrad, it holds the corridor Moscow wants.

The Baltic War
On 11 March 1987 Lithuania declared its independence, and Latvia and Estonia followed. We did not wait for Moscow's permission: the Baltic states joined Ukraine and Belarus in their war against the Soviet Army, and when the Union fell in 1988 we were free. Today we are in the European Union and the euro - but Russia is still next door, and NATO is gone.

The focus tree
Lithuania's own tree has 150 focuses. It opens with The Restored Republic, The Ignalina Question, The Seimas of Landsbergis, The Poles of Vilnius, The Kaliningrad Border, The New Policy and more. By kind: political (74), industry (47), historical (44), army xp (29). Taking every focus, one after another, would take about 26 years - the roads are exclusive, so a playthrough sees only part of it.
Drag to pan, Ctrl + scroll to zoom, click a focus for its description and rewards. Focus names in the guides below jump to it.

Path guides
How to reach each of Lithuania's roads. The same guides are in game, as free decisions in the Lithuania Path Guide category.
The Seimas Election
How Lithuania's politics begin:
- Play the Kubilius cabinet of 2000, then take and . No focus is tied to a date.
- Election night is an event: the Social Democrats (Algirdas Brazauskas) or the New Policy (Rolandas Paksas's Liberals). There are no primaries.
- Take the winner's first focus. The loser's road disappears.
With historical focuses on, the AI elects the Social Democrats.
The Social Democrats
Brazauskas's Lithuania:
- Elect the Social Democrats and take their first focus: Brazauskas governs.
- Choose to close Ignalina as promised or keep it open; sell the Mažeikiai refinery to Orlen or to Yukos.
- leads to the Facilitated Transit Document and the Corridor Rules.
- brings in Gediminas Kirkilas. The road ends in .
The New Policy and the Impeachment
Paksas's Lithuania:
- Elect the New Policy and take its first focus: Rolandas Paksas governs.
- The coalition breaks, Paksas runs for President and wins. and the Security Report follow.
- is an event: the Seimas removes him, or the votes fall short.
- If he survives: (a presidential republic, a gas deal with Moscow or the European line). If he is removed: Kubilius's Government of National Defence.
With historical focuses on, the AI removes him.
A Government of National Defence
The hard line:
- Elect the New Policy, then have Paksas removed at the impeachment vote.
- Kubilius governs: lustration and the KGB archive, , the Riflemen's Union and conscription, the Independence gas terminal.
- , then the Eastern Flank asks the Defence Union for a brigade (its leader decides). The road ends in .
Choices in the Shared Branches
The choices that exclude each other outside politics:
Energy: the Visaginas nuclear plant, or the Wind Coast.
The army: return conscription, or a professional army.
The minorities: Integration, or the Lithuanian Line. Belarus: back the opposition, or trade with Minsk.
Lithuania is in the European Union, so it shares the European Recovery branch after 2008; its own recovery opens only if it leaves the Union.
Mechanics
How Lithuania's own systems work. In game: the Lithuania: Mechanic Guide decisions.
Russia's Gathering of the Lands
Russia wants back what it lost in 1988, one land at a time: Ukraine's east and Crimea, Belarus, Kaliningrad, Transnistria, Georgia's Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Narva, Latgale, a corridor through Lithuania and northern Kazakhstan.
The steps, at least a year apart: Compatriots (our stability falls), the Gas Weapon (give in, or hold out and risk an Energy Crisis), Little Green Men (Russia gains claims and our state is destabilised) and finally a Referendum or Union Treaty. A referendum or union is only accepted by a land that is weak, at war with Russia or gave in to the gas weapon: keep your stability up and do not give in.
Demands: once Russia's track has reached the gas weapon it can demand one state at a time. Cede it, refuse (Russia gains a war goal) or appeal to the West, which backs you with a guarantee or makes you give way.
Russian Provocation is your shield: every Russian step raises it. At 25 the West sanctions Russia; at 50 every land Russia wants is guaranteed by the West; at 75 a Russian war lets the Defence Union or NATO intervene.
Gas: if Russia cuts you off you suffer an Energy Crisis (consumer goods up, stability and factory output down). The Energy Security decisions - Emergency Rationing, Fill the Storage, Reverse Flow From the West, An LNG Terminal, Nuclear and Coal - lift it over months. Prepare before the cut, not after.
