The situation in 2000
When Iraqi Scuds fell on Tel Aviv in 1991, Israel struck back - and its retaliation broke the Gulf coalition apart. A decade on, Prime Minister Ehud Barak promises peace with the Palestinians and a withdrawal from Lebanon, with a Saddam who claims he won that war still next door.

We Struck Back
When Iraqi Scuds fell on Tel Aviv in January 1991, the Americans asked us to hold back. We did not. Israel struck Iraq - and Syria walked out of the coalition, Egypt and Saudi Arabia threatened to follow, and Washington's war fell apart around it. Saddam is still in Baghdad.
