The focus tree
South Korea's own tree has 404 focuses. It opens with The Miracle on the Han, The Won Falls, The Armed Forces, Korea's Place, The People's Government, The Nobel Prize and more. By kind: political (158), industry (153), army xp (93), historical (71). Taking every focus, one after another, would take about 40 years - the roads are exclusive, so a playthrough sees only part of it.
Drag to pan, Ctrl + scroll to zoom, click a focus for its description and rewards. Focus names in the guides below jump to it.

Path guides
How to reach each of South Korea's roads. The same guides are in game, as free decisions in the South Korea Path Guide category.
The 2002 Election
How South Korea's politics begin:
- Play Kim Dae-jung's last years from : the June summit, the chaebol after the IMF, the World Cup. No focus is tied to a date.
- and . Election night is an event: Roh Moo-hyun or Lee Hoi-chang. There are no primaries.
- Take the winner's first focus. The loser's road disappears.
With historical focuses on, the AI elects Roh and keeps the Sunshine.
Korean Détente
The mechanic both Koreas share:
One bar between Confrontation and Détente, shown in the Korean Détente decisions. Every summit, aid shipment or reunion moves it towards Détente in both Koreas; every test, shelling or crackdown moves it back.
High détente opens union by agreement (a Korean Confederation); at the Brink of War crises come, and a war on the North opens once the bar is low and the world is tense.
Sunshine Continued
President Roh (historical):
- Kaesong, Mount Kumgang, the railway north and the 2007 summit.
- With détente high, offer the North a Korean Confederation; if it accepts, Korea is one. If it refuses, court it and ask again.
- The 2007 election inside the road: Lee Myung-bak or Chung Dong-young.
The Hard Line
:
- The American alliance first, missile defence, the nuclear question and the chaebol given their head.
- A war to liberate the North opens only when détente is low and the world is tense.
Something Hidden
One road is hidden:
A chairman somewhere in the hard line's Seoul thinks the country would run better as a company.
The AI never takes it when historical focuses are on.
Mechanics

Korean Detente
The two Koreas share one bar between Confrontation and Detente, shown in each country's Korean Detente decisions. A change made in either capital moves both bars by the same amount.
The five ranges: the Brink of War (a crisis event), a Cold Peace, the Armistice (the start), Sunshine and One People.
What moves it: the South's family reunions and rice and fertiliser, the North's accepting the rice and opening Mount Kumgang push towards Detente; loudspeakers on the DMZ and a missile over Japan push towards Confrontation, as do both trees' hard-line focuses.
What it does: union by agreement (the Korean Confederation, or the North's Koryo Confederation) needs Detente of at least 80 of 100; a refused offer can be made again by decision. A war on the other Korea needs the bar at 20 or less and a tense world.
